NABACU

“They are Ours"

NABACU "They Are Ours" is a community-centered program dedicated to promoting inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in Rwanda. Our focus extends to individuals living with albinism, those affected by epilepsy, and historically marginalised groups who continue to face systemic barriers in health, education, and socio-economic development.

With NABACU, we believe that disability is not inability and that every individual deserves a fair chance to thrive. We work hand in hand with communities to facilitate access to quality health services, advocate for inclusive development programs, and build awareness around the unique challenges our beneficiaries face. Despite progress in national policy, people with disabilities particularly those with albinism or epilepsy often experience stigma, limited access to medical care, and exclusion from economic opportunities.

Many live in rural or underserved areas where critical services remain out of reach.

Our Impact

Through NABACU, we provide direct support, connect individuals to life-saving health interventions, and advocate for policies that prioritize inclusion. By working collaboratively with local leaders, health providers, and grassroots organizations, we’re helping to bridge the gap one life, one community at a time.

Human Rights Promotion and Advocacy

The Human Rights Promotion and Advocacy Program: is a community-driven initiative committed to defending the dignity, rights, and equal participation of persons with disabilities in Rwanda. We place a special focus on individuals living with albinism, people affected by epilepsy, and historically marginalized groups, who continue to face stigma, exclusion, and systemic barriers to justice, healthcare, and socio-economic development.

We believe that every individual, regardless of their condition or background, is entitled to live free from discrimination and to fully enjoy their human rights. Through this program, we work to raise awareness of the challenges faced by our beneficiaries, empower them with knowledge of their rights, and build platforms for their voices to be heard. Our approach includes engaging duty bearers, strengthening local accountability mechanisms, and advocating for inclusive laws and policies that respond to the realities of those most often left behind.

Our Impact

Through the Human Rights Promotion and Advocacy Program, we are bridging the gap between policy and practice. We provide legal literacy, facilitate dialogue between communities and policymakers, and create safe spaces for persons with disabilities to advocate for themselves. By mobilizing local leaders, civil society organizations, and justice sector actors, we are driving collective action that promotes inclusion and safeguards human dignity. Every step we take helps transform communities into spaces where diversity is respected, and human rights are a shared reality.

Building Trauma Resilient Communities

The Program is designed to restore hope, healing, and resilience among individuals and communities who have endured hardship, exclusion, or systemic barriers. This program reaches all our beneficiaries from persons with disabilities, individuals living with albinism, and those affected by epilepsy, to farmers, youth, women, and young mothers engaged in small-scale businesses. Recognizing that trauma often undermines both personal well-being and community development, we place socio-therapy at the heart of our approach, creating safe spaces for healing, dialogue, and collective support.

We believe that resilient communities are the foundation for inclusive and sustainable development. By addressing the emotional and psychological wounds of individuals, we unlock their potential to participate fully in social, economic, and civic life.

Through group-based socio-therapy sessions, capacity building, and community dialogues, we help beneficiaries process trauma, rebuild trust, and strengthen social cohesion.

Our Impact

Through the Building Trauma Resilient Communities Program, we have witnessed individuals regain confidence, families restore relationships, and communities strengthen their capacity to cope with challenges. By integrating trauma healing into our empowerment initiatives, we ensure that beneficiaries whether farmers, youth, young mothers, women, or persons with disabilities can overcome invisible barriers and pursue their aspirations with dignity. Each session, each story of recovery, contributes to building communities that are not only stronger but also more compassionate, united, and forward-looking.
